Surah Al-Kahf

فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِّنْ عِبَادِنَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلْمًا

Fa wajadā ‘abdam min ‘ibādinā ātaināhu raḥmatam min ‘indinā wa ‘allamnāhu mil ladunnā ‘ilmā(n).

And they found a servant from among Our servants to whom we had given mercy from us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge.

452) According to commentators, based on the hadith, the servant referred to here is Prophet Khidr (peace be upon him), and the mercy means revelation and prophethood. Meanwhile, the knowledge refers to the understanding of the unseen, as will be explained in the subsequent verses.
