Surah Al-Fath
Sayaqūlul-mukhallafūna iżanṭalaqtum ilā magānima lita'khużūhā żarūnā nattabi‘kum, yurīdūna ay yubaddilū kalāmallāh(i), qul lan tattabi‘ūnā każālikum qālallāhu min qabl(u), fasayaqūlūna bal taḥsudūnanā, bal kānū lā yafqahūna illā qalīlā(n).
Those who remained behind will say when you set out toward the war booty to take it, "Let us follow you." They wish to change the words of Allah. Say, "Never will you follow us. Thus did Allah say before." So they will say, "Rather, you envy us." But [in fact] they were not understanding except a little.
📝 Footnotes
693) They wanted to alter Allah's promise that the spoils of war (from Khaibar) were exclusively for those who participated in the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. The treaty took place at the end of the sixth year of Hijrah. Later, in Muharram of the seventh year, the Messenger of Allah and his companions marched to war towards Khaibar. In this Battle of Khaibar, the Bedouins who had not participated in the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah intended to join the march to Khaibar so that they could also obtain a share of the spoils of war. Allah informed that He had already promised that these spoils of war were strictly for those who participated in the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
