Surah Al-Fath
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُبَايِعُونَكَ إِنَّمَا يُبَايِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ يَدُ ٱللَّهِ فَوْقَ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۚ فَمَن نَّكَثَ فَإِنَّمَا يَنكُثُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِمَا عَـٰهَدَ عَلَيْهُ ٱللَّهَ فَسَيُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
Innal-lażīna yubāyi‘ūnaka innamā yubāyi‘ūnallāh(a), yadullāhi fauqa aidīhim, faman nakaṡa fa'innamā yankuṡu ‘alā nafsih(ī), wa man aufā bimā ‘āhada ‘alaihullāha fa sayu'tīhi ajran ‘aẓīmā(n).
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands. So he who breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself. And he who fulfills that which he has promised Allah - He will give him a great reward.

692) This is among the verses concerning the divine attributes (ayat al-sifat). Commentators of the Qur’an hold different views regarding this verse. Some explain that what is meant by "hand" is the power and sovereignty of Allah. Others understand it as Allah's oversight and witness over the pledge of allegiance given by the people to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
