Surah Al-Anbiya

Fa fahhamnāhā sulaimān(a), wa kullan ātainā ḥukmaw wa ‘ilmā(n), wa sakhkharnā ma‘a dāwūdal-jibāla yusabbiḥna waṭ-ṭair(a), wa kunnā fā‘ilīn(a).

And We gave understanding of the case to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and [also] the birds. And We were doing [that].

📝 Footnotes
492) According to a narration by Ibn Abbas, a flock of sheep destroyed crops during the night. The owner of the crops lodged a complaint with Prophet David (peace be upon him). He ruled that the sheep must be handed over to the crop owner as compensation for the damaged crops. However, Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him) decided that the sheep should be temporarily handed over to the crop owner so he could benefit from them. The owner of the sheep was also required to replace the ruined crops with new ones. Once the new crops were ready for harvest, the owner of the sheep could take his sheep back. It was this judgment by Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him) that was more appropriate.
