Surah Ali 'Imran
وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَـٰحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَن يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
Wal-lażīna iżā fa‘alū fāḥisyatan au ẓalamū anfusahum żakarullāha fastagfarū liżunūbihim, wa may yagfiruż-żunūba illallāh(u), wa lam yuṣirrū ‘alā mā fa‘alū wa hum ya‘lamūn(a).
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.

119) An obscene act (fāḥishah) is a major sin whose consequences affect not only oneself but also others, such as adultery (zinā) and usury (ribā). On the other hand, wrongdoing to oneself refers to a sinful act whose consequences affect only the individual, whether it is a major or a minor sin.
