Surah Al-Ma'idah
حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ وَٱلدَّمُ وَلَحْمُ ٱلْخِنزِيرِ وَمَآ أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦ وَٱلْمُنْخَنِقَةُ وَٱلْمَوْقُوذَةُ وَٱلْمُتَرَدِّيَةُ وَٱلنَّطِيحَةُ وَمَآ أَكَلَ ٱلسَّبُعُ إِلَّا مَا ذَكَّيْتُمْ وَمَا ذُبِحَ عَلَى ٱلنُّصُبِ وَأَن تَسْتَقْسِمُوا۟ بِٱلْأَزْلَـٰمِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ فِسْقٌ ۗ ٱلْيَوْمَ يَئِسَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن دِينِكُمْ فَلَا تَخْشَوْهُمْ وَٱخْشَوْنِ ۚ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِى وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمَ دِينًا ۚ فَمَنِ ٱضْطُرَّ فِى مَخْمَصَةٍ غَيْرَ مُتَجَانِفٍ لِّإِثْمٍ ۙ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Ḥurrimat ‘alaikumul-maitatu wad-damu wa laḥmul-khinzīri wa mā uhilla ligairillāhi bihī wal-munkhaniqatu wal-mauqūżatu wal-mutaraddiyatu wan-naṭīḥatu wa mā akalas-sabu‘u illā mā żakkaitum, wa mā żubiḥa ‘alan-nuṣubi wa an tastaqsimū bil-azlām(i), żālikum fisq(un), al-yauma ya'isal-lażīna kafarū min dīnikum falā takhsyauhum wakhsyaun(i), al-yauma akmaltu lakum dīnakum wa atmamtu ‘alaikum ni‘matī wa raḍītu lakumul-islāma dīnā(n), fa maniḍṭurra fī makhmaṣatin gaira mutajānifil li'iṡm(in), fa innallāha gafūrur raḥīm(un).
Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, and [those animals] killed by strangling or by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns, and those from which a wild animal has eaten, except what you [are able to] slaughter [before its death], and those which are sacrificed on stone altars, and [prohibited is] that you seek decision through divining arrows. That is grave disobedience. This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

188) Animals that are strangled, beaten, fallen from a height, gored by horns, or savaged by wild beasts are permissible (halal) to eat provided they are properly slaughtered before they die. 189) Al-Azlām means 'featherless arrows.' The Arabs of the Pre-Islamic Period (Jahiliyyah) used them for divination to decide whether or not to take a specific action. They would take three arrows: the first was inscribed with "do it," the second with "do not do it," and the third was left blank. These three were then placed in a container and kept inside the Kaaba. Whenever they wanted to do something, they would ask the custodian of the Kaaba to draw an arrow. They would obey whatever was written on the drawn arrow. However, if the blank arrow was drawn, they would repeat the draw. 190) The phrase "this day" here refers to the time of the Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajj al-Wada').
