Surah At-Tawbah
قَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَلَا يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَلَا يَدِينُونَ دِينَ ٱلْحَقِّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ حَتَّىٰ يُعْطُوا۟ ٱلْجِزْيَةَ عَن يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَـٰغِرُونَ
Qātilul-lażīna lā yu'minūna billāhi wa lā bil-yaumil-ākhiri wa lā yuḥarrimūna mā ḥarramallāhu wa rasūluhū wa lā yadīnūna dīnal-ḥaqqi minal-lażīna ūtul-kitāba ḥattā yu‘ṭul-jizyata ‘ay yadiw wa hum ṣāgirūn(a).
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.

323) Jizyah is a payment or compensation for the security and facilities obtained by followers of Judaism, Christianity, and other faiths living within an Islamic state. 324) This verse and other similar verses apply to situations of religious warfare, not to peaceful circumstances.
