Surah Al-A'raf

Wa lammā jā'a mūsā limīqātinā wa kallamahū rabbuh(ū), qāla rabbi arinī anẓur ilaik(a), qāla lan tarānī wa lākininẓur ilal-jabali fa inistaqarra makānahū fa saufa tarānī, falammā tajallā rabbuhū lil-jabali ja‘alahū dakkaw wa kharra mūsā ṣa‘iqā(n), falammā afāqa qāla subḥānaka tubtu ilaika wa ana awwalul-mu'minīn(a).

And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You." [Allah] said, "You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers."

📝 Footnotes
281) According to some commentators (mufassir), what was manifested was the greatness and power of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. Meanwhile, others interpret that what appeared was His light. In any case, the manifestation of Allah is not like the appearance of any creation. The manifestation of Allah must be in accordance with His divine attributes, which cannot be measured by human intellect.
