Surah Al-Anfal

Falam taqtulūhum wa lākinnallāha qatalahum, wa mā ramaita iż ramaita wa lākinallāha ramā, wa liyubliyal-mu'minīna minhu balā'an ḥasanā(n), innallāha samī‘un ‘alīm(un).

And you did not kill them, but it was Allah who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muhammad], when you threw, but it was Allah who threw that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

📝 Footnotes
308) This event is related to the Battle of Badr, as narrated by Ibn Abbas. He related that when the Battle of Badr was raging, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to Ali, "Hand me a handful of sand!" Ali immediately gathered the sand and handed it to him. Then, the Prophet threw the sand at the faces of the enemy, and not a single one among them escaped getting it in their eyes. Consequently, they were routed and defeated. (Narrated by at-Tabarani).
