Surah Al-An'am
وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ لَئِن جَآءَتْهُمْ ءَايَةٌ لَّيُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهَا ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَا يُشْعِرُكُمْ أَنَّهَآ إِذَا جَآءَتْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Wa aqsamū billāhi jahda aimānihim la'in jā'athum āyatul layu'minunna bihā, qul innamal-āyātu ‘indallāhi wa mā yusy‘irukum annahā iżā jā'at lā yu'minūn(a).
And they swear by Allah their strongest oaths that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, "The signs are only with Allah." And what will make you perceive that even if a sign came, they would not believe.

257) The polytheists swore that if a miracle from Allah were to come, they would believe. Therefore, the believers hoped that the Prophet would pray to Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, to send down the miracle in question. Thus, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, rejected the hope of those believers through this verse.
