Surah An-Nisa

Innā anzalnā ilaikal-kitāba bil-ḥaqqi litaḥkuma bainan-nāsi bimā arākallāh(u), wa lā takun lil-khā'inīna khaṣīmā(n).

Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you. And do not be for the deceitful an advocate.

📝 Footnotes
164) This verse was revealed regarding a theft case committed by Tu‘mah. He hid the stolen goods in a Jew's house and accused that person of committing the theft. When Tu‘mah's relatives requested Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to defend Tu‘mah and punish the Jewish man, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was almost influenced, but Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, revealed this verse and forbade him from defending the traitor.
