Surah An-Nisa

Wa inimra'atun khāfat mim ba‘lihā nusyūzan au i‘rāḍan falā junāḥa ‘alaihimā ay yuṣliḥā bainahumā ṣulḥā(n), waṣ-ṣulḥu khair(un), wa uḥḍiratil-anfususy-syuḥḥ(a), wa in tuḥsinū wa tattaqū fa innallāha kāna bimā ta‘malūna khabīrā(n).

And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them - and settlement is best. And present in [human] souls is stinginess. But if you do good and fear Allah - then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.

📝 Footnotes
171) See the definition of nushuz from the wife's side in the footnote to Surah an-Nisā’ (4:34). Nushuz from the husband's side means acting harshly toward his wife, refusing to have marital relations with her, and withholding her rights. 172) For example, a wife is willing to waive some of her rights provided that her husband agrees to reconcile and return to good terms with her. 173) It is part of human nature to be reluctant to freely and willingly relinquish part of one's rights to others. Nevertheless, if the wife chooses to waive some of her rights, the husband is permitted to accept it.
