Surah Al-Baqarah
وَإِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰكُم مِّنْ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوٓءَ ٱلْعَذَابِ يُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكُم بَلَآءٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ
Wa iż najjainākum min āli fir‘auna yasūmūnakum sū'al-‘ażābi yużabbiḥūna abnā'akum wa yastaḥyūna nisā'akum, wa fī żālikum balā'um mir rabbikum ‘aẓīm(un).
And [recall] when We saved your forefathers from the people of Pharaoh, who afflicted you with the worst torment, slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

23) Pharaoh (Fir‘awn) is a title for the kings of Ancient Egypt. According to some historians, the Pharaoh during the time of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was Merneptah (1232–1224 BCE), who is historically linked with Ramesses II.
