Surah Al-Baqarah
وَإِذْ وَٰعَدْنَا مُوسَىٰٓ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذْتُمُ ٱلْعِجْلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ وَأَنتُمْ ظَـٰلِمُونَ
Wa iż wā‘adnā mūsā arba‘īna lailatan ṡummattakhażtumul-‘ijla mim ba‘dihī wa antum ẓālimūn(a).
And [recall] when We made an appointment with Moses for forty nights. Then you took [for worship] the calf after him, while you were wrongdoers.

25) Allah SWT promised that the time for Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) to converse in private and receive guidance (the Torah) would be forty nights. However, his people grew impatient waiting for him, so they began worshipping the calf statue made by Samiri.
