Surah Al-Baqarah
Innaṣ-ṣafā wal-marwata min sya‘ā'irillāh(i), faman ḥajjal-baita awi‘tamara falā junāḥa ‘alaihi ay yaṭṭawwafa bihimā, wa man taṭawwa‘a khairan fa innallāha syākirun ‘alīm(un).
Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs 'umrah - there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good - then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing.
📝 Footnotes
43) What is meant by syiar (symbols) are the emblems of the grandeur of Allah SWT's religion. 44) Sa'i means walking and jogging briskly seven times between Safa and Marwah while performing the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage. The phrase "there is no sin" is intended to clear any hesitation felt by some of the companions to perform Sa'i because Safa and Marwah were formerly sites where idols stood. 45) Allah SWT "showing gratitude" to His servants means rewarding their deeds, forgiving their mistakes, increasing their blessings, and the like.
